The value of sustainable film video and content

Posted by on Mar 6, 2019 in BLOG | No Comments

We have been making award winning film and video content for over 15 years for brands, agencies, museums and charities. One of our focuses since we opened our doors for business has been to use our passion for making change and the planet in making work that we believe will have a positive impact on our world.  Passion with insight and experience after all is a great generator of creative ideas and great work and the issues our world faces have never been more important than in the present day.

We like to work with businesses who think the future of their business is not just dependent on KPI’s and ROI’s but depends on the people in it, they serve and the future of the planet.

So how can you do your bit or more when it comes to your TV spots, online video or any other video content? First of all you can include the need for a sustainable production process to be undertaken in the initial brief to pitch or tender. Should it cost any more? The simple answer is no, unless of course the production house needs to take specific targets or approaches into a account  Secondly you can ask if they will undertake any impact assessment and if that will be reported on delivery so you can be safe in the knowledge that a ‘best practice’ approach was taken.

Working in a sustainable way offers it’s challenges to most businesses in some way, but we believe the opportunities far outweigh the challenges. This is why all the work we undertake uses a sustainable production process and also why we like to focus on producing content for businesses who believe in celebrating their achievements in this area.

In line with this we have been watching the drivers for sustainability reporting as they are broadening out in line with the increased awareness and interest, particularly from consumers and future employees looking for products, services and employers that are aligned with their own personal values. As a result we have become aware of companies changing up how they communicate their achievements in this zone. Video and VR is certainly playing its part.

Celebrate your achievements and sustainability reporting with sustainable film and video production.

There is doubt to the value of video in capturing the imaginations of your audience while telling your unique and compelling stories. The impact of the film should always leave it’s mark and nobody might ever know if the content was made in a sustainable way. Films and video are not quite like product packaging, they are mostly just data, they are not covered in plastic and recyclable, however we believe you can add value by capturing imaginations in a sustainable way. It will add value if it is known that you commission and make or have your content made in a sustainable way. If the content or message is about sustainability then it’s something that really must be at the heart of the production process and the center of the creative approach, making the content even more sticky (memorable). Why not do something creative with some, if not  all the plastic waste generated in your business for example?  Make it a creative part of the film if it suits the message.

Aside from the moral imperative, sustainability influences all the levers that organizations use to create value: from helping recruit and retain staff to brand-building.

Exemplary sustainability performance leads to recognition from peers, audiences, investors, stakeholders and NGOs. It reduces reputational risk and enhances competitiveness. It helps organizations get on top of existing regulatory requirements and ahead of future legislation.

There is also a clear correlation between sustainability performance and profitability. Morgan Stanley Capital World Index showed that companies who improved their sustainability performance between 2006 and 2008 financially out-performed their peers by more than 11 per cent. The CDP’s 2014 report also shows evidence of a link between business leadership on climate change and a company’s profitability.

There is no doubt good video content adds value so there are good reasons to change up and celebrate your achievements using a creative sustainable video and content production approach.

Should you pay more for a sustainable approach?

In not most cases , we believe it need not cost more unless you have something special in mind.
